Break off limbs and heads. Pick them up. Easy peasy. Got it.

— Mimic, repeating Gil's words.

The Mimic, alternatively known as Mimic2 or M2 is an animatronic endoskeleton created by Edwin Murray. It is the main antagonist of The Mimic, the third story of Tales from the Pizzaplex: Nexie, as well as the epilogues. The Mimic also appears as the main antagonist in Security Breach (RUIN DLC), and additionally the titular main antagonist in Five Nights at Freddy's: Secret of the Mimic.

It is the prior form of The Storyteller.

It's an experimental and intelligent animatronic created by Edwin in the late '70s to copy any movement it sees and care for his son, David Murray, whilst Edwin worked. After David dies in a car accident, Edwin beats the Mimic out of grief. This caused it to become a violent killing machine through a mixture of taking in Edwin's agony, as well as the inherit nature of his mimicry software.

Physical Appearance[]

Original[]

In The Mimic, Edwin used unorthodox objects such as the pistons from a washing machine and trinkets from a Leavers machine to make the endoskeleton's body. There was also a processor at the back of the skull with wires connecting from the back of its head, through its mouth and around its rib cage. Mimic's jaw was made from the Leavers machine's guide bars with teeth drilled onto it. Edwin beats Mimic out of anger, dislocating its eye, compressing its face, breaking its teeth, bending its spine, and crushing its hands, arms and rib cage. Initially, the Mimic was built without legs, but they were eventually added onto it by an extraction group sent by Fazbear Entertainment exploring the factory after Edwin abandoned it.

Epilogues[]

In Epilogue 1, the Mimic's body is seven feet tall. While most endoskeletons have a basic metal structure, the Mimic has a steel frame with many metal rods, ball joints, pistons, that allow it to expand and contract its limbs at will. It has a rectangular-shaped head with white eyes in steel sockets, a mouth lined with white metal teeth, and a pair of bent metal ears at the top that resemble antennae. It has a small switch at the back of the skull that opens its mouth, allowing access to the circuits and wires inside. Its white eyes turn orange when it is activated. When it hunts the teens, its pupils are black.

When it is sent with a batch of new state-of-the-art animatronics to the Pizzaplex, the Mimic stands out as the only one dirty and discolored. Only its head still appears shiny. It is suggested that it looks as if it had survived a fire. A worker claims it was a guitarist.

Because of its retractable limbs, Mimic is able to rotate its body around to resembles a mutated spider, with an eye on one leg, and the other on its back. It has nine legs instead of a spider's usual eight, with one of the legs extending from where its mouth should be. In the 8th Epilogue, it turns into a pulsing, squirming, segmented snake to escape a costume.

The Mimic also wears multiple suits in both The Mimic and the Epilogues, those being a bright pink and yellow-green version of Jest, a fuchsia-and-white Mycellium Men, a grayish-purple lion, Sharpay, a monkey, a blond dog, a gray mouse, a yellow cat, and a blue dog.

Security Breach and RUIN[]

In Five Nights at Freddy's: Security Breach, Mimic reappeared as Burntrap in the "Burn It All Down" Ending, having taken on the appearance that resemble Springtrap using the body of Luca/Springtrap.

In the final confrontation, The Mimic had become a physical being that closely resembles to both Springtrap and Afton from the third and sixth installment of the franchise respectively but with major differences. His suit is still olive and dark yellow in color, but now he has a human jawbone with teeth, and his endoskeleton resembles a combination of the Glamrock Animatronics and a Springlock Suit with sharp claws at the tip of each digit with five fingers instead of four.

His costume is remarkably smooth and appears to have an oily, flesh like texture. The suit has missing segments of its costume, such as on his limbs and pelvic area. His eyes are pitch black with purple glowing pupils and his right foot's endoskeleton is completely exposed while his left foot still had its costume covering.

In the Ruin DLC for Security Breach, it has a smaller squared-off head similar to older classic endoskeleton models with vaguely humanoid teeth similar to the Daycare Attendant's endoskeleton teeth. Its left hand also resembles the classic endoskeleton one, with four fingers on it, while the right hand resembles the one Burntrap has. Both its legs are also different from one another; the left leg has some sort of wiring encasing it, and looks similar to Withered Bonnie's, while the right one resembles Spring Bonnie's.

Secret of the Mimic[]

In Five Nights at Freddy's: Secret of the Mimic, the Mimic's design is slightly more basic in terms of appearance while still remaining consistent. It possesses a more stripped down and less complete version of its framework from the RUIN DLC, except with the addition of its chest cavity containing its original battery power source. It possesses a pair of orange heated eyes made of electric coils, and its shoulders as well as its limbs are capable of extending or retracting, in addition to having hydraulic extensions like large heels for the Dollie costume. The battery box on its chest has wires running from it to the arms and rest of its body.

The Mimic lacks a lot of the plating, ramshackle panels, and protective coverings that are affixed around its burnt frame in its later appearances, appearing far more incomplete and more like a regular endoskeleton than a complete robot like in RUIN.

Functionality[]

Mimic was originally designed to be a friend to David, Edwin's son. It was coded to mimic any human behavior it saw, and mimicked David's movements. It mainly focused on David's movements, rarely copying Edwin and avoided mimicking him during angry outbursts. After David died, Edwin lashed out at Mimic in anger and pummeled it. Edwin unknowingly implanted violent behavior into Mimic's code, turning it into a brutal killer who would go on to kill many people.

After being delivered to the construction site of Freddy Fazbear's Mega Pizzaplex, Gil reprogrammed the Mimic to rip off the limbs and heads of other endoskeletons. However, the method of dismemberment gets mixed into its already violence-driven programming, causing it to tear off the limbs of humans. The Mimic appears to somehow have control over electricity, as seen by how nearby light sources (such as ceiling lights or flashlights) malfunction when he's in close proximity. This is also shown when he hacks into the animatronics of the Pizzaplex, turning them violent and attempting to hack into Glamrock Freddy simply by touching a screen.

The manual in the ruins of Freddy Fazbear's Pizza Place explains that Mimic has retractable and expandable limbs and a contracting torso, allowing it to fit into any animatronic suit. It then says that the model was not stable and that if it is ever encountered, it should be disconnected from its power source and dismantled.

Personality[]

The Mimic was originally designed to copy David Murray's actions, being playful and occasionally mischievous, such as when David hid inside one of the Fazbear Entertainment character costumes, the animatronic followed suit. After David dies, Edwin beats the Mimic viciously and infuses it with his Agony before leaving. The once infantile, friendly Mimic had been turned into a cold and barbaric killing machine.

The Mimic also was able to outsmart a group of teenagers in Tales from the Pizzaplex. It butchers all but one of them by using its mimicking abilities to fool and trick them. However, it's somewhat careless nature is shown once more through these epilogues, as the Mimic is eventually tricked into entering a springlock suit and is temporarily deactivated by Lucia before self-repairing.

As Burntrap, Mimic take on the personality of Springtrap from FNaF 3 as he doesn't appear to express any emotion, besides laughing. He also appears to be incapable of speech as he doesn't speak during his encounter with Gregory. However, Burntrap is implied to be persistent as he continues to try and possess Glamrock Freddy during the "Burn It All Down" Ending's boss battle even after Gregory repeatedly burns him with the burners located within his chamber.

History[]

The Mimic[]

In the third story of Tales from the Pizzaplex: Nexie, the Mimic is revealed to have been created by Edwin Murray in the late 1970s. It was originally designed to be a friend to his son, David. It was coded to take in information and mimic human behavior. David and Mimic spent lots of time together, the latter imitating the former's movements. They drew pictures, played games with a ball, and even came up with their own form of sign language. David, who loved white tigers, gave Mimic a makeshift white tiger plushie to match his own. They also played dress up with the costumes Edwin was tasked with fitting endoskeletons in, much to Edwin's dismay.

One day, David goes outside on his own to play ball. The ball goes onto the road, and as David runs to retrieve it, a white van races by and runs him over, killing him. Two weeks go by, and Edwin, stricken by grief, attacks Mimic. It is pummeled and left to rot as Edwin leaves the factory, disappearing without a trace. With his company bought out by Fazbear Entertainment, the factory ends up back in their ownership. Mimic had survived, and absorbed the information from Edwin's attack, integrating murderous tendencies into its code.

A week before Christmas, Fazbear Entertainment sent two search parties to search Edwin's factory and take the important artifacts with them. Mimic kills them, fueled by Edwin's violence. It also takes the other data he retrieved into account as well. It takes memories of Edwin and David doing simple tasks such as putting leftovers in the fridge and hanging clothes as methods to hide the bodies of its victims. It also uses the data from when it and David wore Edwin's costumes, gaining the habit of killing its victims while wearing various animal outfits.

Five Nights at Freddy's: Secret of the Mimic[]

Sometimes after the events of the Mimic's story, Fazbear Entertainment sent a team to search the abandoned workshop of Murray’s Costume Manor and retrieve the prized prototype technology that was left behind by Edwin after he disappeared.

Pre-Epilogue and Event of Help Wanted[]

At an unspecified point in time, Mimic leaves the factory, somehow ending up in Fazbear Entertainment's hands. The Mimic endoskeleton was mass-produced for animatronic costumes, with the company also giving the endoskeletons code that made them mimic what they saw. Eventually, it was given a spot in the Fazbear Entertainment manuals. The Mimic endos are eventually deactivated due to unspecified potential dangers mentioned in the manual.

While its programming is integrated into the Freddy Fazbear Virtual Experience, with Mimic's code being used to expedite the game's development. During development, the development team inadvertently released a malicious digital manifestation of The Mimic known as Glitchtrap into the game.

For unknown reasons, however, the original Mimic remained. It was given a basic speak modulator and was presumably going to be the endoskeleton for a guitarist animatronic for the Mega Pizzaplex once it finished construction.

Epilogue - Lally's Game[]

The endoskeleton was delivered to Freddy Fazbear's Mega Pizzaplex in the middle of its construction, alongside the other Glamrock animatronics. It was going to be the guitarist of the group. Gil, one of the workers, decided to steal the broken robot for himself. He was one of the workers clearing out endoskeletons from Freddy Fazbear's Pizza Place, which was set to be remodeled into a museum. Tired of the monotonous work and wanting to speed up the process, Gil programs the endo with a "clean-up protocol" to rip off the heads and limbs of endoskeletons.

Following programming, the endoskeleton briefly complies and puts the endoskeleton remains into a pile. Without warning, the endo defects, ripping Gil apart. Ten other workers are murdered in cold blood. The only one that survived is another worker named Danny, who runs out of the pizzeria and begs the construction crew working on the Pizzaplex to seal the entrance away.

Epilogue - Happs[]

The endoskeleton is still around when Lucia and her friends break into the pizzeria. It notices their arrival and begins hunting them.

Epilogue - Somniphobia[]

Lucia and the crew hide in the storage room. The endoskeleton makes the lights flicker in an attempt to scare them out of hiding. The group stays still long enough for the endo to give up and walk away. As the group splits up to search for escape routes that weren't sealed off by the construction crew, the endoskeleton continues its hunt. Joel and Wade narrowly miss an encounter with the endoskeleton in the employee's lounge, as the endo drags its claws against the wall.

Nick and Hope explore backstage and discover wardrobes filled with character costumes. One of them has a secret opening into the walls that the endoskeleton can access. It pulls Nick in and tears off his arm. It brings Nick back out to decapitate him and the endoskeleton sinisterly holds Nick's head aloft in front of Hope. She runs away, with the endoskeleton letting her flee. The group reunites and finds about Nick's death. They hide inside the Parts and Service room.

Hope describes the endoskeleton to the crew and Lucia notices a bunch of empty animatronic suits. She realizes that the endoskeleton could slip into a suit without any of them noticing. The endoskeleton does just that, tearing off Hope's limbs and head in a Sharpay's costume. The remaining six survivors run away in terror.

Epilogue - Submechanophobia[]

The endoskeleton continues its hunt for the remaining six survivors. The group is in shambles after the deaths of Nick and Hope. Joel forces Wade to come with him as he splits up from the rest of the group. Lucia, Adrian, Jayce and Kelly hide out in the employee's lounge, remaining out of site of the animatronic as it heads down the hall. While trying to get a radio to work, Lucia finds a decades old operators manual that showed various designs of endoskeletons. She recognized that one of these old endoskeletons was the one chasing after her and her friends, the Mimic. The Mimic had two variants, and the documents stated that they should be shut down and disassembled if encountered.

Meanwhile, Joel and Wade find a potential exit through the ventilation shaft of a furnace, although it is blocked by a rotating fan. Since the Mimic had control of the lights, and all the electrical technology as a whole, Joel wants to lure it near them so that the fan turns off giving them a chance to climb out unscathed. Wade is used as bait. The Mimic spots him and chases him throughout the pizzeria until Wade is able to get enough distance to lure it into the systems room. The plan works, as the power within the room goes off and the fan stops.

As Joel starts squeezing his way through the fan, the Mimic catches Wade before he is able to join him. Wade screams for Joel to come save him, but he does nothing as the Mimic rips him apart. Unaware that Joel is there, the Mimic grabs Wade's body parts to put in the pile and leaves. The Mimic is far enough for its influence on fade. The power turns back on as Joel is mid-way through the fan, and he is cut to pieces.

Epilogue - The Bobbiedots Conclusion[]

Mimic torments the group further by pretending to be a person trapped in the pizzeria, luring them to a secret room behind the stage area. It gets into one of the costumes, a monkey, and chases them, but the group barricade themselves in the office before it can do anything. Mimic encounters Adrian and Jayce who are inside the vents but is unable to pursue them.

By the time Adrian and Jayce encounter him again, Mimic has changed from a monkey to a Sharpay's costume. They evade Mimic again by hiding under one of the arcade's pinball machines. Mimic notices Adrian alone goes to the storage room and heads after him. He was planning on lodging an endoskeleton leg into the blades of the chute's fan. But the leg flies out and Adrian falls. Mimic catches him and tears him apart.

Epilogue - Nexie[]

Mimic tries tricking the group again, talking to them over the radio. It convinces them to come find it in the janitor's closet, but after they start taking too long, Mimic realizes that they've caught on. It sneaks out of the closet and into one of the lockers. When the group passes by, Mimic attacks Lucia. She gets a tear in her scalp, but she is able to escape alive.

Later, Mimic encounters Jayce on his own in the storage room, unaware that he and the others had a plan to trap it. While Mimic is deadbolted into a storage room, Jayce crawls through the vents to escape. However, his sleeve gets caught in one of the rivets, causing a chain reaction that makes the section of the vent he's in disconnect. Jayce tries to crawl back up, but Mimic grabs onto his legs and tears them off. Jayce falls into the room, now left alone to be killed by the Mimic. Lucia and Kelly hear his screams, signaling his death.

Epilogue - Tiger Rock[]

Mimic is swiftly able to escape the room by mimicking Jayce's crawl through the vent, shifting its body to fit the compact space. It heads to the backstage area where Lucia and Kelly are going. Mimic puts on a mushroom costume to blend in. The two girls put on other costumes in the hopes that Mimic won't be able to detect them. Mimic unveils itself to the duo, changing to a nine-legged spider. Kelly tries to run, but Lucia stops her. Mimic goes to Kelly, inspecting her. However, it registers Kelly as a costume and puts on the outfit with Kelly inside, crushing her in the process.

Epilogue - B7-2[]

Mimic walks away, while wearing Kelly's remains within the costume. Mimic returns to the costume room and changes into a gopher costume. Lucia walks in and removes the zippers from the other costumes. When Lucia gets to the gopher, it jumps out and Lucia hides. Mimic searches the room for her, noticing Lucia, who was still in the rodent costume, trying to blend in. Mimic crawls in, trying to crush her, but Lucia opens the zipper and escapes from the back. Lucia hides behind a jester costume, putting her head inside to catch the Mimic's attention.

Mimic leaps into the costume, unaware of Lucia's true plan. She beats the costume with a metal rod. As Mimic tries crawling out from the jester's mouth, the springlocks within the jester suit activating, keeping a hold on the Mimic. Lucia flicks Mimic's power switch, and Mimic shuts down, powerless and contained.

Post-Epilogue[]

Due to Vanessa transferred the Mimic's digital consciousness from the Fazbear Funtime Service into the Pizzaplex's system, its programming was integrated into The Storyteller, with Mimic's code being used to influence the story-driven programming of the Pizzaplex's animatronics. It was later transferred into an animatronic white tiger head. Glitchtrap somehow finds out about its old endoskeleton body trapped under Freddy Fazbear's Pizza Place and had Vanny uses Glamrock Freddy to clear a path to the now underground pizzeria to reactive it.

Five Nights at Freddy's: Security Breach (Ruin)[]

The Mimic return as the optional final boss in Five Nights at Freddy's: Security Breach, nicknamed Burntrap. It only appears in the "Burn It All Down" Ending, with Mimic taken on the appearance of Springtrap. Burntrap was shown to be able to hack into the majority of the animatronics' systems to become hostile towards children like Gregory.

After surviving a setup similar to the first game of the franchise against the shattered forms of Monty, Roxy, and Chica, Gregory successfully remotely ignites a fire in the old pizzeria, the same way Henry did against William prior. Not wanting to burn to death, he tries to flee after Gregory and Glamrock Freddy. Unfortunately for Mimic, the endoskeleton is suddenly strangled by Tangle and dragged away into the now destroyed celling.

A security system called M.X.E.S was created by Gregory and Vanessa to keep the Mimic trapped as the Pizzaplex shuts down and is abandoned. The Mimic poses as Gregory, mimicking his voice and pretending he's trapped in the Pizzaplex so Cassie can unknowingly free it. Once Cassie deactivates the security protocols, Mimic prepares to kill Cassie, only to be stopped by Roxanne Wolf.

She can only hold it off briefly, as the Mimic rip her head off before starts to chase Cassie. Gregory comes into contact with Cassie and gives her the instructions to the elevator. She manages to get in just in time. Mimic tries to grab her but ends up getting its left arm chopped off. In an attempt to not be followed, Gregory sends the elevator crashing down, leaving Cassie, and the Mimic stranded in the rubble of the old pizzeria.

In the Scooper ending, Cassie traps it in a room resembling the Scooping Room, with the Mimic now wearing an amalgamation of a clown elephant, a jersey lion, and an elderly penguin suit. Once Cassie presses the button, the scooper activates and dismantles the Mimic.

Five Nights at Freddy's: Help Wanted 2 []

Mimic appears in the gallery after the Tiger Rock plush is retrieved. He wears the costume that he wore in the Scooper ending.

Trivia[]

  • Epilogue 1 makes note of the endoskeleton in the epilogues to have the Mimic's burned body, however, the endoskeleton having a different, shiny head was made note of. This could hint at the Mimic's actions being influenced by whatever programming is contained within that head.
  • It's also made note of in later epilogues, that the Mimic endoskeletons have an off switch on the back of their heads, if the epilogue endoskeleton lacks this feature, it's likely the head doesn't belong to a Mimic, however this is currently speculation.
  • Epilogue 6 and Tiger Rock show that the original Mimic witnessed some kind of twisted game of hide-and-seek that caused the Mimic endoskeletons to start acting weirdly, resulting in the entire Mimic line being decommissioned. Judging by the way it acts in the epilogues (luring people to the backroom and hiding in a costume), this game of hide-and-seek may have been The Missing Children Incident. This is backed up by Pizza Party in Help Wanted, where Mimic1 as Glitchtrap recreates the murders in the form of a minigame. This strangely also lines up with the party hats on the dead children from Into the Pit.
  • When Cassie is about to enter the ruins of the FNAF 6 location, her flashlight goes out despite working unimpeded throughout her journey. This was presumably caused by the Mimic and its strange ability to control electronics and short them out through close range contact.
  • Burntrap holds his right arm in a position that seems like he is holding something between his arm and chest. People believe this is a reference to David and the tiger plush he made for Mimic, with Mimic as Burntrap pretending to hold the plush like he did over fifty years prior.
  • It is also believed that the flesh in Burntrap's suit is Kelly's corpse rather than William Afton, referencing the events of the seventh epilogue where Mimic put on a blue dog costume with Kelly inside, squishing her to death in the process.
    • This was proven false as Kelly's corpse fell off of the Mimic when it left the suit.
  • Despite a few lines of dialogue in the Security Breach trailers seemingly coming from some form of M2, Burntrap never speaks throughout his entire encounter.
  • Upon close inspection, it can be seen that the unused model for Spring Bonnie that was originally intended for Help Wanted was partially reused and heavily edited for parts of Burntrap.
    • One of the character artists for Security Breach who worked on Burntrap, Johnathan Gonzalez, stated that his base model came from characters in Help Wanted.
  • Scott Cawthon's original vision for the character was for him to appear hidden throughout the game, not moving as if he were a movie prop. A boss battle against Burntrap was not intended and resulted from miscommunication with Steel Wool Studios.

List of Victims[]

Book\Game Character Description
Tales from the Pizzaplex: Lally's Game Gil A Fazbear worker, who gave the Mimic instructions to tear off limbs and heads. Mimic violently tears off his arms, and then his head.
Tales from the Pizzaplex: Lally's Game Theo, Bryce, Owen, Carlo and 6 others Ten other workers who die in similar fashions to Gil. Due to all of them crowding the exit, it left them in close range for Mimic to grab them and rip off their appendages.
Tales from the Pizzaplex: Somniphobia Nick A member of the main friend group. Nick is pulled into a wardrobe by the Mimic, and when he is thrown back out, one of his arms have already been severed. Mimic then jumps out and twists Nick's neck to tear off his head.
Tales from the Pizzaplex: Somniphobia Hope A member of the main friend group. Ambushed by Mimic, who hid in a dog costume. After her arms are cleaved from her body, Mimic flips her upside down to pull out her legs. Hope is finished when she is flipped again, and her head is severed.
Tales from the Pizzaplex: Submechanophobia Wade A member of the main friend group. As Wade makes his way to the chute, he is caught by the Mimic. Joel hears him scream for help as he is killed. Wade presumably dies in a similar matter to the others.
Tales from the Pizzaplex: Submechanophobia Joel (indirectly) A member of the main friend group. While not directly being the cause of death, Mimic walking away from the chute is what causes the fan to turn back on. The fan's blades slice Joel into pieces.
Tales from the Pizzaplex: The Bobbiedots Conclusion Adrian A member of the main friend group. In a failed attempt to stop the chute's fan, Adrian falls down the shaft. Mimic catches Adrian before he fully hits the ground. Jayce hears Adrian's screams as he dies, presumably having his head and limbs ripped from him.
Tales from the Pizzaplex: Nexie Unnamed Man (Tape recorder or Terrence) A member of the first extraction team sent to Edwin's factory. The man's body is found beaten and crammed into a fridge, imitating how Edwin put leftover food in it.
Tales from the Pizzaplex: Nexie Unnamed Man (Tape recorder or Terrence) A member of the first extraction team sent to Edwin's factory. The man's body is found impaled by a metal rod and hung on a clothes hanger, imitating how David hung his pajamas in the closet.
Tales from the Pizzaplex: Nexie Harry A member of the second extraction team sent to Edwin's factory. After finding the corpses of the first team, Dominic realizes Harry had been killed when he wasn't looking. Mimic had impaled him through the top of his head, pulling out Harry's brain from his bleeding open skull.
Tales from the Pizzaplex: Nexie Glen A member of the second extraction team sent to Edwin's factory. Glen is ambushed by the Mimic, who hid in the costume rack. It flips Glen to hold him sideways and then slams him into the wall like a battering ram multiple times. The crushed remains of his head are driven into his neck.
Tales from the Pizzaplex: Nexie Dominic A member of the second extraction team sent to Edwin's factory. As Dominic is going up some stairs, he is grabbed by the ankles, thudded across the remaining steps, slammed to the floor on his back and then skewered in the stomach. His entire midsection erupts in pain as Mimic tears out his trachea.
Tales from the Pizzaplex: Nexie Jayce A member of the main friend group. In a failed attempt to lock the Mimic in the storage room, the vent Jayce is crawling in breaks, giving the Mimic an opening to escape. While Jayce is holding onto the duct, Mimic rips his legs from his body. This presumably causes him to fall into the room as Mimic finishes him off.
Tales from the Pizzaplex: Tiger Rock Kelly A member of the main friend group. Lucia and Kelly wear some of the mascot costumes, believing they won't be detected. Instead, when Mimic sees Kelly, he charges towards her and puts on the costume with her inside. She is crushed to death from the Mimic's mass.
